Video: Experts on the challenges of climate change adaptation
Scientists, policymakers and businesspeople convened in Rotterdam this week for the Adaptation Futures 2016 conference, where they discussed the impacts of climate change and how the planet can prepare for them.
With topics ranging from vulnerable deltas to degraded rainforests, Carbon Brief asked participants what they considered to be the main challenges of adapting to climate change.
- Patrick Pringle – Deputy director of the UK Climate Impacts Programme (UKCIP) on monitoring and evaluation.
- Prof Declan Conway – Research fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics and Political Science on using adaptation finance effectively and efficiently.
- Amy Chester – Managing director of Rebuild by Design on the importance of community involvement.
- Prof James Ford – Associate professor of geography at McGill University on Arctic adaptation.
- Pema Tenzin – Programme leader for Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness Commission on the need for funding.
- Prof Kristie Ebi – Professor in the Departments of Global Health and Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Washington on the positives rather than the challenges.
